As far back as I can remember I have been taught that you would take no interest in the things of God unless God were already active in your life. Nowadays there is a popular saying, variously attributed on the internet to Francis of Assisi or Rumi, that goes, The One you seek is also seeking you.
On considering this precept I didn’t feel that it went far enough because Thomas Keating is adamant that you don’t have to go looking for a God who is already present, closer to you than consciousness itself. All you have to do is remove the obstacles that prevent you experiencing what you already possess. Captivated by the rhythmic possibilities of the word ‘already’ I encapsulated these thoughts in this stilling chant.
